Research centres
The evolution and consolidation of research groups means it is advisable to set up singular research centres as specific structures. These centres help us to provide a legal framework suited to R&D&I work within the scope of their competence as they have a strategic sectorial or overarching nature, in addition to providing instrumental, scientific, and technological support.
CIGUS Network Centres
The research centres in the Galician university system (CIGUS) are promoted by the Xunta de Galicia regional government with the aim of strengthening research of excellence. These centres were recognised for the quality and impact of their research as they are benchmarks within the Galician university research system.
Telecomunication Technologies Research Centre (atlanTTic)
Driven by us and located on the Vigo campus, the centre undertakes its scientific activity with a scope including privacy and security, multimedia technologies, data networks, y-services, bioengineering, radar, satellite communications, and radio and optical communications in general.
Marine Research Centre (CIM)
A central element in the University’s marine strategy, forming an interdisciplinary axis that is a local, state, and international model in the sphere of the generation and transfer of marine knowledge.
Nanomaterials and Biomedicine Research Centre (CINBIO)
Our multidisciplinary research centre stemmed from the need to provide common equipment and infrastructure to research staff specialised in biomedicine at the Universidade de Vigo. The Centre houses bio-experimental facilities and a biosafety level 3 (BSL3) laboratory that is unique in northwestern Spain.
Collaborative research centres
Research Centre in Technologies, Energy, and Industrial Processes (Cintecx)
Based on the Vigo campus, Cintecx aims to be a key player in the fourth industrial revolution, generating knowledge and transforming it into technological solutions that contribute to improving the competitiveness of industry.
Interuniversity Centres
Galician Centre for Technological and Mathematical Research (CITMAga)
The Galician Centre for Technological and Mathematical Research (CITMAga) was created by agreement among the three public universities in Galicia, aimed at integrating scientific capacities in the field of mathematics, sharing a vision and strategy, and with a clear commitment to knowledge transfer. Motivated to foster a collaborative culture that seeks excellence in research, innovation and training, the CITMAga aspires to become a national and international benchmark, as an attractive environment for scientific and professional development.
Interuniversity Centre for Research on Atlantic Landscapes and Cultures (CISPAC)
CISPAC is a unique, new-generation centre, a pioneer in fundamental and applied research in the field of social and human sciences. It is a reference model that seeks to improve the use of R&D capacities by bringing together 73 outstanding researchers belonging to 35 research groups at the Universities of Coruña, Santiago de Compostela, and Vigo, selected by an external advisory committee.
Economics and Business Administration for Society (ECOBAS)
ECOBAS (Economics and Business Administration for Society) is an interuniversity research centre specialised in the study of sustainability in broad terms, that is, from its three basic pillars: economic, environmental, and social. The research and teaching staff from Galicia’s three universities that make up the centre undertake their studies in the field of social sciences, mainly economics and business. The Universidade de Vigo is the institution that coordinates ECOBAS.
