Research groups

Research groups are the basic structure for the development, organisation, and management of R&D&I in the university.

A research group is a stable group of research staff that is fully capable of undertaking the activity, with common aims and sufficient shared infrastructures and resources to allow continued and competitive R&D&I activity.

The Xunta de Galicia regional government recognises the most competitive research groups in the Galician research system in the following modalities:

  • Competitive reference groups (GRC) made up for at least five researchers.
  • Groups with growth potential (GPC) made up for at least three researchers.

Each modality has its own minimum requirements for scientific merit and excellence.
